BCIL provides a vast range of crucial services for individuals with disabilities that support them in gaining power and control over their lives, setting them on a path to achieve their goals and aspirations.
Empowering a person means to assist an individual to take control of his or her life in all areas, regardless of what his or her disability may be. Through BCIL’s Direct Services department, we work with individuals to help them develop, set, and achieve their personal goals.
As a Center for Independent Living, BCIL provides its five core services to people of all ages, including those under 22. Services are aimed at empowering young people to make a smooth transition from youth to adult services.
Being independent doesn’t have to mean going it alone. Our Community Living and Participation department can help you plan how to live in the setting of your choice, with the supports you need, to go about life on your own terms.
PCA services are a MassHealth program that assists people with permanent or chronic disabilities to live at home independently. This is a consumer directed program, which provides personal care services for people with disabilities.

Domestic & sexual violence affects individuals in all communities. Statistics from the Center for Disease Control indicate people with disabilities may be twice as likely to experience sexual or domestic violence as non-disabled adults.
Our Information and Referral specialists are often a consumer’s first point of contact with BCIL, providing information on disability issues and referring consumers to the appropriate people at BCIL, or other agencies, for assistance with the concerns they may have.
BCIL offers Housing Workshops for those with disabilities. The workshops take place via Zoom and in BCIL’s Temple Place office and cover affordable housing options in the Boston area, how to apply for subsidized housing, and where to look for housing.
BCIL has a collaborative effort with the Easter Seals Technology Center. It is BCIL’s goal to help consumers access the best Assistive Technology available with staff trained in teaching consumers how to use this technology to enhance their independent living experience.
